Website Not Showing Up on Google?

Work down this list in order: indexing, blocking, newness, thin content, no links, wrong words, or a penalty.

The straight answer

Work through these in order; most sites are fixed by step three. (1) It is not indexed yet: search site:yourdomain.com on Google; zero results means Google has not stored it. (2) You are blocking Google: a robots.txt disallow or a noindex tag left over from development, the single most common self-inflicted wound. (3) It is just new: indexing takes days to weeks without help; a sitemap submitted in Search Console plus internal links accelerates it dramatically. (4) The content is thin: five sentences and a phone number rarely rank for anything competitive. (5) Nothing links to you. (6) You target words nobody searches, or everybody fights over. (7) Rarely: a penalty, visible in Search Console's manual actions report.

The 20-minute fix session

  • Set up Google Search Console (free) and submit your sitemap: this alone fixes new-site invisibility.
  • Check robots.txt and meta tags for noindex or disallow lines you forgot.
  • Write pages that answer a specific question your customer types, one page per question.
  • Get the easy links: your Google Business Profile, industry directories, suppliers, the chamber of commerce.

If the site is old, slow and template-locked, sometimes the honest answer is that rebuilding beats renovating: modern structure, clean markup and speed are ranking table stakes, and an AI rebuild ships all three by default.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take for a new website to show up on Google?

Without help: anywhere from days to several weeks. With a sitemap submitted in Search Console and a few internal links from an indexed page: often 24 to 72 hours. Our own pages routinely index overnight using exactly that setup plus IndexNow.

Does paying Google get my site to show up?

Ads buy the labeled ad slots immediately, but no payment influences organic listings. If a marketer implies otherwise, keep your wallet closed.
